The children are welcomed in by the staff at Little Smarties and offered a wide selection of breakfast, including, toast, cereals, fruit, yoghurts and drinks.
Quiet and relaxing activities are put out for the children in the morning so that they are ready to go to school, these are such things as; board games, drawing, reading and quiet time in the cosy corner, background music, chosen by the children daily.
Prior to taking the children to school, as a group we all work together to tidy up all activities from the morning. We then help the children to get ready for school by helping them to find their bags, coats, water bottles, etc. we then give each of them a hi-vis jacket which all children and staff have to wear as a safety precaution when out and about.
The children’s safety is our main priority at all times and all staff are DBS checked.
After School Club
The staff prepare and organise activities for the afternoon prior to their collection, we offer activities such as; arts and crafts, experiments, reading & homework club, games, computer (Wii, PlayStation, etc.) gardening, football, rugby and out door play when the weather improves!
The staff collect all the children from their schools to bring them back to Smarties After School Club – See list of schools we currently pick up from.
They have short period of time to chat and socialise with their friends and staff before they wash their hands ready for tea.
All food is prepared freshly every day, the children have the chance to make food choices about what they want to eat. They have a vast choice of home cooked food and eat together in the dining area. They also have pudding which is a wide range of home cooked puddings to yoghurts and fruit offered daily.
After dinner, the children sit as a group in the main room, where a member of staff talks to the children about the plan and choices they have. The children then choose their option and the areas are split up in order for the children to have the space to successfully carry out their choice of the evening.
There is always free flow play available for the children throughout the afternoon/evening and they always have the freedom of choice to choose something that appeals to them. If they change their minds, then the staff are always happy to accommodate.
Staff always give the parents/carers a handover to let them know what their child(ren) has done, including any messages that have been given from their schools.
